What Do You Do If You’ve Been Exposed to Black Mold?

Many clients and friends we know in the rainy Northwest have struggled with black mold in their homes and symptoms related to exposure. Mold in the shower may seem harmless, but our favorite online health expert, Dr. Axe, says that “some black mold symptoms can actually be really serious and are not unusual in the home- especially the shower”.  According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, molds in general are very common in homes and buildings and they can grow anywhere indoors where there is moisture. One of the challenges of black mold is that it may not even be visible in your house, but still significantly impact your health and cause a host of symptoms. These symptoms include:

  • Headaches
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Fever
  • Eye irritation
  • Sneezing
  • Rashes
  • Irritation to the mucous membranes of the mouth, nose and throat
  • Chronic coughing

If you move into a new building and notice a musty smell, often times there is mold in the walls or basement or someplace hidden. If you suspect you’re dealing with a mold issue, there are steps you can take to remedy it yourself or have it taken care of professionally. And if you’ve been exposed, there are a host of remedies to get your health back on track.

How can BodyQuirks Help?

At BodyQuirks, we have several tools that may help alleviate symptoms related to mold. Some of our favorites are:

Essential Oils: There are many ways to get rid of mold and one way is by using essential oils. Oregano, Thyme, Cinnamon, Clove, and Tea Tree oil are all helpful in eliminating existing mold and all of which, except Tea Tree oil, can be taken internally to boost the immune system and eliminate mold, fungus, and bacteria that may be negatively impacting the body. Tea Tree oil is best used by using a ratio of 1 teaspoon of the essential oil to 1 cup of water in a spray bottle to get rid of visable mold and mildew. We carry these oils and more by the Snow Lotus and DoTerra brands.

Far-Infrared SaunaSince mold exposure creates more toxins for your system to process, far infrared saunas are incredibly helpful at helping the organs detox through the skin. We even found a great article on how saunas can help to mitigate the effects of mold exposure.

PEMF: For an immune or nervous system weakness or imbalance, PEMF can restore the nervous system, helping your system to expel toxins and heal existing cellular damage. PEMF can stimulate the uptake of oxygen, water, antioxidants and critical nutrients into the cell, so that the body can recover faster from mold exposure.

Even Whole Body Vibration deserves an honorable mention, as it can help to open body, specifically the lungs, and get your lymph flowing. If the lungs feel irritated, gentle stretches to open up the lungs, via opening the arms while laying on a platform may be helpful. For more tips on how to use any one of these modalities or to try our PEMF or WBV units for FREE, call us at (503) 233-9030!
