Whole Body Vibration For Pain Relief

The positive effects of whole body vibration (WBV) training are numerous and can include a reduction in musculoskeletal pain*. While those suffering from chronic conditions may need pain management techniques, the truth is anyone can experience musculoskeletal pain and find relief. So what can you do if you find yourself in pain?

Check with your physician

First, visit your physician to make sure you have not sustained a serious injury or condition that may warrant a more serious medical approach or treatment. Once you get cleared for exercise by your doctor, you can see if whole body vibration training can bring you relief of your symptoms and help you mobilize again.

Musculoskeletal pain

Musculoskeletal pain is often caused by an injury to the bones, joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, or nerves, due to jerking movements, car accidents, falls, fractures, sprains, dislocations, and/or direct blows to the muscle. Some bodily pain has been proven to be relieved or reduced with the use of WBV because it helps increase circulation and blood flow to injured areas, increases the production of “happy hormones” which also can help you get out of pain brain), improves flexibility, and lymphatic drainage and more.

The benefits of WBV on musculoskeletal pain

  • Confuses the pain- Just as vigorously rubbing a knee when you’ve banged it on a table leg, etc., helps get your mind off the pain by overwhelming the brain with additional sensory data, WBV can alleviate your perception of muscular pain by stimulating the area.
  • Move it and lose it- A lot of pain is the result of stiffness caused by immobility and lack of flexibility. WBV can help mobilize tender unused muscles, increase flexibility, and in turn relieve pain.
  • Blood flow and lymphatic drainage- Inflammation and damaged tissues benefit immensely from increased blood flow and lymphatic drainage, both increased by the use of WBV.
  • Heat it up- Have you ever taken a hot bath to sooth sore muscles after a day of hard work? WBV brings warmth to sore and stiff muscles, but is three times more effective, according to the results of a 2008 study1.
  • Return to balance- WBV is great for balance and posture (because it strengthens core muscles), and the better these are, the less muscles and ligaments are strained in order to compensate for improper body positioning. This is a great way to prevent pain in the first place.

If you want to learn more about whole body vibration, and how it can help you with pain management, give us a call at (503) 233-9030. We’ll set you up with a FREE personal trial session with Esther or Tara so you can experience what WBV is all about for yourself.

*Pain can be a sign of a serious health issue or injury. Always consult your health care professional for assistance in determining if WBV is right for you.
