Boost your health by alkalizing your body

Why would we want help alkalizing our bodies? Because alkalizing is said to be the key to long-term health and avoidance of diseases such as cancer.

What is alkalizing?

To truly understand the need for body alkalization, you must first know what the other end of the spectrum of pH in the body is — acidic. If we were to mark these two on a line, they would be at opposite ends of the spectrum, with  the midpoint between them being neutral (neither too acidic nor too alkaline). This is basically the pH scale, the range of which measures how acidic or alkalizing a substance is. This scale ranges from 0 (acidic) to 14 (alkaline) and in between them both at 7 (neutral).

phscale

The term pH was first used by Danish biochemist Søren Peter Lauritz Sørensen in 1909 and is an abbreviation for “power of hydrogen” or “potential hydrogen.”  It is “the measurement of electrical resistance between negative and positive ions in the body,” where positive ions are logged as acid forming and negative ions are logged as alkalizing. This pH measurement looks at the relationship of these ions to one another.

Alkalizing is the idea that our bodies, bombarded by stress and poor nutrition, from the average American diet (high in conventionally produced animal products, hyper-refined, preserved, colored and processed foods, as well as excess sugar) needs a bit of help to balance all the acid created by such eating and lifestyle habits. The fact is, foods like those mentioned above can produce upwards of about 100 milliequivalents of acid per day — nearly twice what the body can handle without dipping into vital minerals to help neutralize and effectively balance this acid uptick.

Alkalizing — it’s all about balance

Now, this doesn’t mean that trying to achieve total alkalization is the goal either. Move too far to either end of the pH spectrum and your health is in trouble. The optimal pH level for our bodies is in that neutral range close to 7.4, just slightly alkalized.

This is because in order for your blood to be effective as a medium for transporting oxygen and other vital nutrients, it needs to be in that 7.36-7.44 range but most Americans (due to a highly processed and sugared diet) are overly acidic and unaware of the need to balance their vital pH.

The theory is that while our bodies come equipped with alkaline reserves in order to re-balance fluctuating levels of acid, those reserves are limited and need to be replenished regularly by eating the right kinds of alkalizing foods. Any excess alkali from these alkalizing foods can be stored by the body to neutralize future acids but if the majority of what you put in creates more acid, then your scales are going to tip at some point to disease and dysfunction.

Because excess acid in the system can impair the body’s ability to repair or detoxify, this can leave you more susceptible to disease and illness such as: headaches, indigestion, low immunity, acne, weak or brittle hair and nails, acne, joint pain, trouble with weight loss and gain, and increased allergies. Remaining in an acidic state long-term has even more devastating effects and has been linked to more serious conditions such as gut dysbiosis (yeast and bacteria imbalance within the digestive track), cancer, and issues with the heart, lungs, liver, pancreas, thyroid, colon, kidneys and more.

Alkalizing foods

Making small changes in your diet slowly, over time can have some of the best and most long-lasting effects on your pH levels and your overall health. These include: reducing or eliminating sugar and refined carbs, eating only fresh whole foods (nothing from a box, can or bag — this food should be the way you would find it in nature), and greatly increase your fresh fruit and vegetable intake, as these can be some of the most highly alkalizing foods you can give your body.

  • Avocados – Heart healthy fats and alkalization, plus vitamins and amino acids — they take any salad next level.
  • Lemons – A refreshing wake-me-up, warm lemon water has long been a favorite to start the day off right by alkalizing, clearing the liver for a fresh day of filtering impurities and reducing bloat. It’s also chock full of vitamin C.
  • Leafy greens– Rich in vitamins, antioxidants, phytochemicals, and important minerals like calcium, iron and magnesium, lively greens such as: kale, chard, and spinach pack an alkaline punch.
  • Roots– Underground veggie friends like carrots, radishes, beets, parsnips, rutabagas, and turnips have your back in the pH balance game.
  • Crucifers–Broccoli, cauliflower, cabbages and Brussel sprouts, these fiber filled cancer fighters are on your side.
  • Cucumbers and Celery – Though they may not seem like there’s much to them, cukes and celery are two of the most alkalizing foods you can eat and they’re quick to neutralize acids and aid in digestion.
  • Garlic – An alkalizer and a superb immune booster, garlic is antibacterial AND anti-fungal.

H2 and alkalizing your body

Knowing that hydrogen (H or H2) has anti-inflammatory properties (even slow down the aging process) and that more and more studies are showing the power of hydrogen to aid the body in ridding itself of free radicals caused by oxidative stress, it seems only logical to ask, “How can I get more hydrogen?”

Drinking alkaline water is one way

For a long time people have thought that drinking of alkaline water was just a fad, that it didn’t help much of anything, but now some science is showing us that it does help keep the body more balanced. We have an alkalizing machine and all the water we serve here at the BQ Studios is alkaline.

The Power of SevenPoint2 HydroFXrecovery-product

We also carry a product line in-studio called 7.2 Recovery with HydroFX™ which “is a unique blend of redox-active, hydrogen-generating alkaline minerals.” According to its parent company, SevenPoint2, this ” . . . patent pending process used to create HydroFX™ was developed by a PhD, Chemist and Scientist with 30 years experience in this field.”

A proprietary formula,7.2 Recovery with HydroFX™ has been clinically tested to “. . . release molecular hydrogen, produce a negative oxidation reduction potential, create an anti-acid, alkalizing effect and to increase cellular hydration.”  The tablets are best taken on an empty stomach and about 10 minutes before you eat.

SevenPoint2 says the benefits of an alkaline body are:

  • Reduced Inflammation
  • Reduced Joint Discomfort
  • Reduced Lactic Acid
  • Increased Energy
  • Anti-Aging
  • Cardio-Protective
  • Neuro-Protective
  • Intestinal Protection
  • Skin Rejuvenation
  • Increased Stamina
  • And more
