Whole Body Vibration (WBV) and Cellulite Reduction

Cellulite-Facts-Exercises-Reducing-DimplingOne of the primary things that women who come to our studio would like to change is the appearance of cellulite on their bodies. They loathe cellulite’s orange-peel look on their legs, thighs, buttocks and stomach. It’s a common misconception that you have to be overweight to have cellulite – in truth, anyone can get it. But there are natural ways to combat cellulite that are less harmful and invasive than creams containing aminophylline, mesotherapy, liposuction and laser treatments – one of them being whole body vibration (WBV).

What is cellulite and what causes it?

Cellulite occurs when fat cells just beneath the skin’s surface become inflamed and expand laterally, pushing against connective tissue and causing the skin to bulge or pucker, giving it what many people refer to as an orange peel or cottage cheese look. Although science has deemed cellulite a normal manifestation, many consider it unsightly and seek ways to reduce it, or eliminate it all together.

Some factors that can contribute to cellulite are genetics, poor diet, alcohol, caffeine, fad dieting, not exercising, dehydration, fluctuating hormones, slow metabolism, and total body fat.

How WBV training can help reduce cellulite

Research conducted by Dr. Horst Frank and Dr. Birgit Moos at the SANADERM Professional Clinic for Skin Disease and Allergology in Germany has shown that whole body vibration can help reduce the appearance of cellulite.

During the six month study, two groups, consisting of 55 subjects, were examined. In one group individuals trained on a WBV platform for 8-13 minute sessions, 2-3 times per week, resulting in a 25.7% reduction of cellulite on their thighs and buttocks. The second group supplemented the same WBV regime with an additional 24-48 minutes of cardio training. Their results were only slightly greater than those who just used the WBV platform alone, resulting in a 32.3% reduction of cellulite on their thighs and buttocks. Essentially, the group that incorporated cardio took four times longer to achieve little more than the non-cardio group, revealing that WBV training is both effective and time efficient in reducing cellulite.

The study also stated that whole body vibration training can stimulate collagen remodeling, improve circulation, increase lean tissue, encourage fat loss, and reduce the size of buttocks, thighs and calves.

Basically, WBV increases circulation along the skin’s surface, strengthening connective tissue, toning muscles, increasing muscle mass and burning fat cells, leaving no room for the unsightly cellulite.

We have also experienced a great reduction in the visible cellulite on our thighs and glutes and we’re very happy to report that our clients are experiencing similar results.
